The Bunch of Grapes and Cowboy Night.

The weekend started when we visited the "Bunch of Grapes " restaurant in Pissouri. The shaded courtyard was the perfect setting for the evening. The food and service were exceptional.

The following evening we were invited to a "Cowboy night " at Adam and Hiedi's house. There were a number of impressive costumes on display, some lovely food, crazy games and plenty of laughs.

There were three types of Chilli to choose from and numerous side dishes to try as the country tunes played over the speakers.

Liverpool and Bruce Springsteen in Concert

News reaches us from Sweden where Mandy's Two sons, Robin and Johan flew over to the UK for a short visit. They flew into Manchester and made their way to the City of Liverpool.

First stop was The Albert Dock. They strolled along the waterfront, soaking in the sights of the historic warehouses, now transformed into museums, shops, cafe's and popped into a pub for a well earned pint.

No trip to Liverpool would be complete without paying homage to the Fab Four. They wandered over to Mathew Street, where the echoes of the 1960s still seem to linger in the air. Outside the Cavern Club – the legendary venue where The Beatles cut their teeth – they took a few photos, peering down the stairs into the dimly lit space that birthed a musical revolution.

Just around the corner, they found the statues of John, Paul, George, and Ringo striding toward the Mersey, immortalised in bronze. It felt surreal – like they were walking through the pages of a rock history book.

The next evening was the real crescendo of our trip. The made our way up to Anfield – usually home to Liverpool FC, but on this night, the sacred stadium belonged to The Boss. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were in town.

The energy was electric. Thousands of fans – young, old, local, and international – streamed into the stands. As the sun dipped behind the terraces, Bruce took the stage with the same fire and grit that’s made him a legend.

From Thunder Road to Born in the U.S.A., he played like a man on a mission. Every word, every guitar solo, every beat of Max Weinberg’s drums seemed to shake the very foundations of the stadium. For two Swedes far from home, it was a night we won’t forget – part rock concert, part spiritual revival.

On a warm afternoon, the Pissouriana hotel was the venue for a "Sunday-Funday" as the musical act, Stuart and Chelsey, known as The Vocal Couple entertained visitors and locals alike.

It was also the hotel's manager, Agi's, birthday and the local PRA presented him with a cake to mark the day.

Alghero to Rome to Cyprus

We hopped on the local airport bus, a bargain at 1.30 euro and took the short ride to Alghero airport.

We boarded the Airitalia fight for the 45 minute journey over to Rome's FCO airport.

After a long connection wait at Rome's Fiumicino we boarded the flight to Paphos which took 2 and a half hours.

So that concludes our visit to The Island of Sardinia. We both agreed that the welcome and help from the Sardinians we met was second to none.
We also noticed that they were proud of their Island and kept it spotlessly clean.

Alghero to Fertilia

On our final day in Alghero we decided to catch the local bus over to the small village of Fertilia. The journey only took about 20 minutes.

Fertilia is a small coastal town in northwest Sardinia, near Alghero. Built in the 1930s during Italy's Fascist era, it features rationalist architecture and a unique history tied to land reclamation projects.

We strolled down to the marina that has sweeping views over the bay to Alghero.

We stopped off for a coffee and pastry close to the village square before heading over to the  Calich Lagoon. The lagoon is part of the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park.

Adjacent to the lagoon are the remnants of the Ponte Romano di Fertilia, an ancient Roman bridge that once featured 24 arches, of which 13 remain today.

Walking back to the main Piazza we came across the Alguer rugby club at San Marco field.

The club is a newly established rugby union club based in Fertilia, a district of Alghero in northwest Sardinia, Founded in early 2024.

Rain in Alghero

Rob went out for an early morning walk but it was somewhat curtailed by some heavy showers. Still we managed to get to the old market, a walk along the Bastiones and the seafront.

After breakfast we returned to the market to buy some salmon and veg for tonight's homemade dinner.

We then took a stroll along Alghero's huge marina and walked along Lungomare Barcelona which is perfect for seeing the sights along the beachfront.

We stopped off at The magic bar for coffee and croissants and to taking in the views. Returning to the old town we stopped of for an ice cream before continuing our walk along the old city seawall.

In the evening we walked over to the Blue Sky rooftop bar which has tremendous, panoramic views of the old town, the marina and the hills in the distance . The dark clouds over the town and. Sea made the scene made even more dramatic.
