Kouris Reservoir and Lofuo

We took a drive out to Kouris Reservoir, which lies to the North East of Pissouri. Our first stop was a walk across the dam itself, we were the only people there and  from the dam there is a great view of the village of Alassa in the distance, backed by the Troodos mountains.

The water level in the reservoir looked pretty high for this time of year.

We drove around to the sunken church of Saint Nicholas, which was part of the old village of Alassa. The sun striking of the water gave a stunning effect.

We then moved onto the village of Lofou, this traditional Cypriot village has been restored to a lovely standard while the cobbled streets set a wonderful atmosphere.

The village was so quiet when we  we visited,  almost a ghost town. There were hardly any people around, we thought this must be due to the Covid epidemic and the late time of year.

We stopped off at the 19th century village church dedicated to the Annunciation of Virgin Mary.

Flamingos and Salt Plains

After a week of some dramtic, electrical thunderstoms, we awoke to a clear day so made our way down to Akrotiri saltflats. There were quite a few flamingos out on the water and with dark rainclouds and the city of Limassol in the background , it made quite a view.

We then drove across the saltflats to Lady's mile beach, on a beautiful afternoon we stolled along the beach and watched the fisherman.  We then found a sheltered spot for a coffee and sandwich.

New covid 19 restrictions in place

The new covid 19 restrictions began theis week, all bars and restaurants are now closed until the end of the Month as well as other non essential buisneses. Travel between the districts of Limassol and Paphos  has been banned unless a valid reason is produced and  Police check points have been set  up on the Motorway.

These new measures have  been implemented due to the rising number of cases of Covid 19 detected on the island.

Early November has brought the first rains of Autumn, we have note seenn rain since April.
