Hiking the Yermasoyia area

Rob and Steve set off on one of ther hikes, the starting point was the village of Yermasoyia, which lies just North-West of Limassol. Leaving the village square they followed the path of the dried up river bed, walking through the cirtus groves until they reached Yermasoyia Dam.

Walking across the Dam wall they hike towards the village of Phinikaria, they spotted numerous Hawks hovering on the currents above. A quick coffee break at the village taverna and then it was time to hike the Korypi escarpment which was a steep climb upto the peak at 582 metres.

At the Peak of Korypi there are some wonderful panoramic views,
on the Northern side is the Reservoir, backed by the imposing Troodos mountains and to the South lies commanding views of the Town of Limassol backed by the Medditerean sea.

Burns Night in Pissouri

Tracy and Dave kindly invited us to their Burns night supper. The guests arrived to the stirring music of the pipes. Dave made the welcome speech and then we sat  down to the traditional supper of Cullen Skink soup, followed by Haggis, Neep and Tatties.

Tracy then gave the Address to the Immortal memory of Robert Burns, this was followed by Rob giving the "Toast to The Lassies" speech.  Mandy then replied with the "Toast to the Laddies", all speeches were accompanied by a selection of Scottish whiskies !

Finally we were treated to a selction of Burns poems and some rousing singing of well known scottish songs.

The whole evening was superb, Thanks to Tracy and Dave for their hospitality.

Somehow (The whiskie played a part) they managed to get Rob into a kilt !

Happy Birthday Mandy

To celebrate Mandy's birthday we took a trip to the village of Mandria for a night out. We started off with a slap up Fish and chip dinner, sadly a glass of wine was tipped over one of the guests, luckily, this particular guest is used to being wet throughout the day. (Hint 4D)

We then went over to the "Get it" Inn  for a couple of drinks and  to  dance the night away as  the singer Stevie Dean performed her show.

Sunday, January 03, 2010

To blow away the cobwebs of the recent festivities, Rob, Mandy, Steve and Mary decided to go for a Sunday hike. The starting point was the village of Mamonia  which is East of Paphos. They hiked South following the dried up bed of the River Diarizos.

They stopped for lunch in the deserted village of Souskio, this Turkish Cypriot village was abandonded in 1974 and the ruined buildings that are left are used as livestock pens.

Moving on they followed the irrigation channel before arriving at Nikokleia, this hike is about 5 mile/ 8km and the tracks it follows are in good condition.

On NewYears Eve, Dave and Tracy invited us around to their house for Hogmanay. Dave looked the part dressed in his kilt of "Freedom tartan"

Dressed as" Rab C Nesbitt" and "Jamsie Cotter",two uninvited guest turned up halfway through the celebrations.  A couple of dodgy Scottish accents aroused suspicion that Steve and Rob were up to their old tricks.
