Anniversary Troodos tour ...Part 1

To celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary we decided to spend a few days exploring some of villages around the Troodos mountains. We made the two hour drive from Pissouri to Kalopanyitis, our base was at the Casale Panayiotis, an unusual hotel with its rooms dotted around the refurbished village.

After checking in we took the impressive lift down to the old streets of the village. In the evening we had dinner at the old cinema restaurant.

On our second day we headed out on the mountain roads for a visit to the Kykkos monistary, Mandy had to wear a robe to enter the monastery. It's a very impressive building with its many icons and detailed wall paintings.

We then continued up the mountain to visit the Memorial and tomb of Archbishop Makarios, which sits high on the mountain top.

We returned to Kalopanyiotis and wandered over to the monastery of  St John where we saw a newly married couple posing for their photographs.

We finished the afternoon with a refreshing drink at a wine bar on the main Street, the inside of the bar was decorated with lots of old memorabilia .

Bryan's 65th and The Hillview Quiz

On Friday we walked over to the Hillveiw restaurant to take part in the Tri monthly Quiz, our team, Five plus Two, came in our usual mid table position. The food was superb and there was a good amount of inter team banter.

Sheena and Bryan invited a few friends around to their house to celebrate Bryan's 65th Birthday. On a lovely late Summer's evening, the guests enjoyed drinks and nibbles on the terrace as a full moon rose above Pissouri.

New God-Parents and The Lodge

This weekend we skyped Lee and Sarah and we were thrilled to be asked to be Cari's God-parents at her forthcoming Christening.

As we talked to her parents, Lee slowly lifted up Cari so that we could read what was written on her shirt. We now have another trip to the UK planned.

On Sunday we joined some of the locals of Pissouri for a bus trip into Paphos, our destination was "The Lodge", an African themed restaurant. A great afternoon was had by all and we were entertained by the Rock Band "Black cab"

Torrential Rain in Cyprus......In August !

We woke up on Sunday Morning to dark rain clouds rolling in from the West, at about 10.30 the heavens opened up and we were hit by torrential ran for about an hour. This is the first time that we have ever had rain in August in the eleven years we have lived here.

We were due to visit the beach football tournament down in Pissouri Bay, but when we arrived at the rain was so heavy that we could not leave the car.
The event did began once the storm had passed.

A "Rock" concert and Mid Life Crisis

Whilst driving past Aphrodite's rock this week we were surprised to see heavy machinery on the beach, it turns out that they were building a performing stage and a 1000 seater Grandstand for two concerts to be held this weekend.

On Friday evening we popped down to the Pissouri Bay cafe for a bite to eat and then went to the Grape and Grain to see the band, Mid Life Crisis.  This coincided with a wedding party at the G&G.
