Lunch in Pachna

On Sunday we made our way up to The Linos tavern in the village of Pachna, where we had a superb Meze lunch.

The name Pachna is thought to originate from the ancient Greek word “πάχνη” (pachni) which relates to the morning white frost found on leaves following a chilly night.

A Moonshot and The Dingleberry

On Saturday we wandered down to the 1911 club to see  The Dingleberry (his real name is Paul) who but on a great show of singing and playing acoustic guitar.

It was a Full Moon this weekend and this gave me a chance to take a few snaps of the Moon

Canon Powershot SX280 HS Digital camera

We just just picked up a new digital  camera in the shape of the Canon Powershot SX 280 HS.
We used it for the first time at the recent Wedding but since returning to Cyprus we have had more time to get used to the camera and took a few local shots as you can see below.

As mentioned our first use of the camera was at last Month's Wedding and we put together a montage and uploaded the finished Video

Cold evenings and a farewell dinnner

Since our return from the UK we have noticed a sudden drop in temperatures, especially in the evenings, if feels as if someone threw a switch while we were away.

We were kindly invited to a "Farewell" dinner at Stella's Grill corner for Steve and Gill, who are returning to the UK (for a while), we will miss them and wish them all the best.

Tredegar Park and Stratford upon Avon

The following morning we decided to blow away the cobwebs by taking a long walk in the impressive grounds of Tredegar Park near Newport.

We then made  our way back up to the Midlands and stopped over at the pictuesque town of Stratford upon Avon. We took a walk along the banks of the River Avon where the wildlife includes numerous Ducks, Geese and Swans.

We also took a few moments to watch the narrow boats navigate one of the local locks.

We then paid a visit to Mandy's mum, Edith, who was on fine form recalling some stories from Mandy's childhood.

The Wedding Boxing Day Party and Beyond

The following evening we gathered at a local pub, The Tredegar Arms, for another evening of celebration. This gave family and friends of Lee and Sarah to let their hair down with Karaoke.

I may be a little biased, but I thought Lee and Rob stole the show with Springsteen's "Glory Days"  :-)

On our final evening in South Wales we returned to The Tredegar Arms of some more live music provided by one of Lee and Sarah's friends who entertained the pub for well over two hours.

The Wedding Night Party

In the evening more guests arrived and the entertainment started when the three Best men gave their speech accompanied by an amusing slide show.

The guests were then entertained with some Live music from the duo "Smoking Aces". The guests danced  until the early hours of the morning in a wonderful atmosphere of celebration.

The Wedding Reception

The guests made their way back to The Old Barn Inn for the reception and Lee and Sarah arrived in a classic VW camper van.
On a fine, sunny afternoon we made our way to the garden for drinks and photographs.

The guests then repaired to the hotel dining room, where Sarah had made a wonderful job of decorating each table personally with the added theme of "Sweets". A superb dinner was then served followed by family speeches.

The Wedding Day

The Wedding ceremony took place at St. Basil's Church in the village of Bassaleg just outside the City of Newport. Lee had chosen 3 best men for the event and they all looked a bit nervous as Sarah arrived 30 minutes late.

The wait for the bride, Sara, proved to be worth it as she looked truly stunning as she made her way up the Aisle to the accompaniment of a Live Welsh male voice choir.

Lee's mum, Pat, and Sister Lisa could not have been happier and an old fella from Cyprus was as pleased as punch to see his cousin marry such a lovely lady.
