No water, Johan's Arrival, Lee's Award, Lisa in Croatia and Archie's birthday.

This weekend Pissouri suffered a major water cut as the main pipeline from Paphos suffered a fracture, many residents and tourists were left without water for several days.

On Friday evening we drove over to Larnaca airport to collect Mandy's son, Johan, who flew in from Sweden for a weeks visit. Also on Friday we heard that Lee's financial company (Rateswitch) had won an award in the UK.

Meanwhile, Lee's sister, Lisa, continues her tour of Croatia, which she describes as the most beautiful country she has visited...and she's seen a few.

On Sunday we were invited over to Sheena and Bryan's house to help celebrate their Grandson's (Archie) first birthday.

Troodos Tour...Part 3

We made an early start to the day, we checked out of Kakapatria and hit the road to cross the Eastern side of the Troodos Mountain. Our first stop was at the Troodos Botanical gardens, the gardens are not that big but they are beautifully kept and have lovely views of the surrounding area.

We than made a stop at a lookout viewing area that had spectacular views of the countryside and valleys below.

We then crossed the Top of the Troodos and made the drive back home to Pissouri.

Troodos tour....Part 2

We left Panayiotis and headed East, our first stop was at the village of Evrychou where the Cyprus railway museum is situated. This small but well maintained museum is housed in the old railway station  that was the southern terminal of the Cyprus government railway that ran between 1905 until it's closure in 1951.

We then drove into the village of Kakopetria, we checked into "The Mill" hotel and wandered down to the riverside park with its small waterfall and numerous ducks paddling around the small river.

In the afternoon we explored the Old town, with its narrow streets and alleyways, the tiny houses sat cheek by jowl.

We then crossed the bridge and strolled along the river, well, more of a babbling brook really, but still very relaxing.

In the evening we ate at the Mill restaurant which is famous for its signature dish of grilled trout.

Anniversary Troodos tour ...Part 1

To celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary we decided to spend a few days exploring some of villages around the Troodos mountains. We made the two hour drive from Pissouri to Kalopanyitis, our base was at the Casale Panayiotis, an unusual hotel with its rooms dotted around the refurbished village.

After checking in we took the impressive lift down to the old streets of the village. In the evening we had dinner at the old cinema restaurant.

On our second day we headed out on the mountain roads for a visit to the Kykkos monistary, Mandy had to wear a robe to enter the monastery. It's a very impressive building with its many icons and detailed wall paintings.

We then continued up the mountain to visit the Memorial and tomb of Archbishop Makarios, which sits high on the mountain top.

We returned to Kalopanyiotis and wandered over to the monastery of  St John where we say a newly married couple posing for their photographs.

We finished the afternoon with a refreshing drink at a wine bar on the main Street, the inside of the bar was decorated with lots of old memorabilia .
