Alun's Birthday

Jan was kind enough to invite us to Alun's birthday party at their house. Amanda made a superb salmon quiche and Arthur whipped up a couple of his famous curries.

While dancing barefooted, one of the guests accidently stepped on a slug, so Mary-mou left with a slimy foot and the poor slug departed forever !

Twins visit the Troodos mountains

Dodging the heavy rain showers we made our way into the Limassol forest, the heavy rainclouds over the Troodos mountains gave some dramatic views.

We made our way up to the small village of Dierona and decided that this was a good place to stop for Lunch. We continued our journey passing through the village of Arakapas.

Driving back through Limassol on the motorway we hit some heavy rain, which caused a few accidents we then came upon an underpass which became flooded and brought traffic to a standstill and caused utter chaos.

Avisit to the Panayia area

On a bright Spring morning we decided to drive up to the Panayia  area, which lies North East of Limassol, our first stop was the  Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery “Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate” which dates from the 12th Century. It was founded by a monk named Ignatius in 1152.

Our next stop was at the Ayia Moni Monastery, this monastery has its own winery and dates from the 10 or 12 century. We then popped into the Kolios winery for a coffee and to buy a few bottles of their suberb wine.

We then stopped of for lunch at the picturesque village of Amargeti with its outdoor relics from years of producing wine. The main Church in the village is dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi (Life giving Spring.

Near to the village Square there is a small selection of wine presses and other wine making tools of days gone by.

We then took a slow drive down the coast Road to Pissouri and a well deserved beer.
