KB beach and Jude's first Crawl

After a week of the  high temperatures in Cyprus, the weather finally broke and the cooler weather arrived. Our old neighbours, Mike and Tina, ended their nine week break in Pissouri and we joined them for dinner at the Kyrenia beach restaurant. This is one our favourite local  restaurants overlooking the Mediterranean sea, with good food and gorgeous sunsets it is the perfect end to the day.

Back in the UK, Jude has reach 9 months of age and just started crawling.

A night of Soul music

On a very warm Friday evening we sauntered down to Pissouri's Amphitheatre for a night of Live Soul music, the acts included Shiela Ferguson ( ex member of the Three Degrees), Andy Abrahams ( Runner up on the UK's X factor talent programme), The Acord choir and the kids of The St John's school choir.

On Saturday we drove over to the village of Mandria for a spot of dinner and to watch the Wales V Northern Ireland Euro 2016, the game was pretty
dire but the Welsh team came through with a 1-0 victory to send them into the quarter finals.

On a scorching hot Sunday afternoon ,eleven of us drove up the Diarizos Valley to The Extreme cafe for lunch. The cafe served a lovely buffet, the staff we welcoming and attentive and we were entertained by musician, Glen Barnes.

Forest Fire, PRA dinner and Father's day

As a heatwave hits the Island of Cyprus with temperatures climbing into the high 30's a huge forest fire erupted in Argaka (Paphos region.)

Israel said Saturday it was sending firefighting planes to the blaze in Cyprus, returning the neighboring island's helping hand when the Jewish state suffered a devastating forest fire in 2010.

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered that firefighting planes be sent to Cyprus to help put out a giant fire that is raging in Paphos," on the island's west coast.

On Sunday we made our way over to the Two friends restaurants where the PRA were holding their Summer Dinner. The music was provided by "Andros" who  was superb on the guitar.

Meanwhile in South Wales, little Jude took his Dad, Lee, out for a Father's day lunch.

Quiz, Queens and Qualifiers

Friday evening we wandered over to The Hillview restaurant for out tri -monthly Quiz, a great turn out and lovely food made for a great night out. Our team, (Arf's Dozen) produced their usual mediocre performance but thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Saturday found us at the Pine Bay club for a celebration of the QE II birthday. A wonderful atmosphere, great food by Kate and the musical entertainment by Alan Allison and Sarah made for a smashing afternoon.

A quick mention for the Welsh football team who have just played their first ever match in the European Championships in France and gained a 2-1 Victory.

A visit to the Hideaway in Northern Cyprus

We decided to spend a long weekend in the North of the Island, we made the two hour drive from Pissouri to the coastal town of Kyrenia. Our base for our visit was the Hideaway hotel which is set back from the town in the foothills of the Pentadaktylos mountain range.

The Hideaway is a lovely small hotel with a beautiful sun/pool terrace overlooking the sea and the dramatic mountain range and the staff are excellent.

On the first morning we made our way down the picturesque harbour for a stroll and a bit of people watching.

In the evening we made our way to the "Number 14" restaurant which is tucked away in the back streets of Kyrenia, you enter from the street through a nondescript gate and enter into a lovely courtyard. The restaurant is run by a British family with three generations of the family working there.

The following morning we spent relaxing by the hotel pool before driving up into the mountains to the village of Karaman, the drive up is a little tight but well worth it.
We parked up in the tiny village square walked over to The Levant restaurant. This delightful, small, quaint restaurant is run by a Canadian couple and the food they serve is superb and the mountain views are stunning.
