Kouris Reservoir and Lofuo

We took a drive out to Kouris Reservoir, which lies to the North East of Pissouri. Our first stop was a walk across the dam itself, we were the only people there and  from the dam there is a great view of the village of Alassa in the distance, backed by the Troodos mountains.

The water level in the reservoir looked pretty high for this time of year.

We drove around to the sunken church of Saint Nicholas, which was part of the old village of Alassa. The sun striking of the water gave a stunning effect.

We then moved onto the village of Lofou, this traditional Cypriot village has been restored to a lovely standard while the cobbled streets set a wonderful atmosphere.

The village was so quiet when we  we visited,  almost a ghost town. There were hardly any people around, we thought this must be due to the Covid epidemic and the late time of year.

We stopped off at the 19th century village church dedicated to the Annunciation of Virgin Mary.

Sunsets and Covid 19 New Restrictions for Cyprus

This week we have  had some truly beautiful sunsets over Pissouri and noticeably the temperatures  have started to drop.

Meanwhile back in the UK, the Cool kids were taken out to choose their Christmas tree for this year's festive season.

On Friday the Cypriot goverment brought in new measures concerning Covid 19.
An island wide curfew begins at 9.00pm until the following morning, restaurnts open until  19.00, Malls and other shopping outlets reopen and movement between districts on the island are now allowed.

Flamingos and Salt Plains

After a week of some dramtic, electrical thunderstoms, we awoke to a clear day so made our way down to Akrotiri saltflats. There were quite a few flamingos out on the water and with dark rainclouds and the city of Limassol in the background , it made quite a view.

We then drove across the saltflats to Lady's mile beach, on a beautiful afternoon we stolled along the beach and watched the fisherman.  We then found a sheltered spot for a coffee and sandwich.

These new measures have  been implemented due to the rising number of cases of Covid 19 detected on the island.

Early November has brought the first rains of Autumn, we have note seenn rain since April.

Fisherman's Friday and Road repairs

On Friday evening we made our way over to Secret Valley golf course to check out what they call "Fisherman's Friday". They have a special offer on their seafood menu. The staff went out of their way to be welcoming and the food and setting were excellent.

One of the main roads into the village of Pissouri is under repair due to falling rocks from the hillside above it. The local council are terracing the hillside to prevent further rockfall.  The closure means that more traffic is diverted through the narrow road through that runs through the center of the village.

The Bay Tree Opens and A house warming.

A New bar/restaurant named "The Bay Tree" opened this weekend down in Pissouri Bay. We popped in to have a coffee and check out the new menu, which looked pretty good.

We wish them all the best for the future.

On Saturday evening we attended a house warming party for our nieghbours, Sylvian and Elaine, aka "The Golden girls". The lady's put on a lovely cold buffet for their guests. One noticable point was that the wind changed direction and it was chilly enough for most of the guests to wear sweaters.

Delizie Cafe

The Hot Summer continues in Cyprus as the temperature are still hitting the 30 degree mark. On Sunday we popped over to the Delizie cafe for a spot of Sunday lunch and listen to the tunes of UB 40 from a tribute act.

First order of the day was to present "Cowboy" John with a Dotted disc of him riding  his horse, "Sunny".

Una at the 1911

We popped down to the 1911 club to see the soul singer "Una". The courtyard at the 1911 had a good crowd and Una had a superb voice and sang for a couple of hours.

A fire on the edge of the village, A 5th Birthday and Schooldays

A fire broke out on the edge of the village, the fire services were soon in attendance and only superficial damage to scrubland was caused.

Back in South Wales there were two landmark Days to celebrate, the first was Jude's 5th Birthday. Jude had a great day, opening his gifts and having a family day out at a Dinosaur park.

Later in the week Jude started his first day at school and Cari started Nursery school.

On beautiful, Saturday evening we made our way over to The Kyrinia Beach Restaurant to celebrate our 16th Wedding Anniversary. We were joined by Denise and Kelvin.

We enjoyed a lovely meal and a Gorgeous sunset.

Heatwave hits Cyprus and A Soul Night in Pissouri

September came in with a bang as far as the weather was concerned. Temperatures soared into the mid  40 's inland and into the high 30's here on the coast. In Nicosia  the highest ever temperaturue  in Cyprus was recorded at 46  degrees celsius (115 Farenheit.)
On Thursday we attended a funeral service at Pissouri cemetery and at 11 o'clock the temperatures were uncomfortably high.
Thankfully the cemetery provided canopies for shelter. Afterwards the attendees gathered at The Hideaway restaurant for a cooling drink.

Soul Night

On a very warn evening, The Band "Soul Kind Wonderful" brought their polished act to the  Pissouri ampitheater. The talented guys put on a wonderful show and performed a number of classics.
