Day 17 : A Beach Day

We decided to have a relaxing day  so strolled down to Canteras beach, we  grabbed a couple of sunbeds and caught a few rays

As ever, Rob got a bit restless and took a long walk along the surf line, the Atlatic sea was a bit chilly to say the least.

Day 16: Three Kings of the Epiphany

Another glorious day of sunshine began when we walked over to the Dockside to watch the arrival of the Kings by boat. This is a celebration of Epiphany and it is when all the kids get their gifts.

A stage had been set up to entertain the huge crowd patiently waiting. A flotilla of boats then made their way up the dock, blasting their horns and spraying huge jets of water.

We the made our way down to the old town where it was extremely busy with families enjoying the special day.

There were numerous street entertainers  and we thought that the pick of them was a guy with a superb tenor voice, that was spine tingling.

After a bite to eat we watched the carnival parade along the streets where numerous floats and hundreds of dancers entertained the thousands of people watching.

The whole experience was a mass of colour, noise and happy faces.

We walked through the main shopping centre where the people were getting ready for Epiphany,  the most important day for the Spanish in the Christmas calendar.

The local kids were very excited at the thought of three Kings arriving in the morning with their gifts.

We then strolled over to the old town where we visited the Basílica de San Juan Bautista which is set in a beautifully quiet ,small plaza.

We then took the small walk to the picturesque Acueducto de Inés Chemida the 19th century Aqueduct.

Our next stop was Monumento al Faycan a peaceful garden with seven fountains depicting the Islands of the Canaries.

Day 13 : A Trip to the Canaries

Early on a brisk Winter's morning we walked over to Bristol airport and joined the Jet2 flight to the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.  The flight took a little over Four hours and was pretty smooth.

We were met by our driver at the airport and after a 30 minute drive we arrived at our accommodation in Central Las Palmas.

Once again we met up with our host, Pedro, who as always, was most welcoming.

We then made our way over to the boardwalk  and were surprised to see how many people were on the beach and in the bars and restaurants, then we realised that it was still a bank holiday.

We finished off the evening by enjoying a glass of wine and some Tapas at Taberna Chica in Plaza Farray .
