1. Joining the Marella Discovery cruise ship.

Fancying a short break, we made our way to the Cypriot port of Limassol, where our home for the next seven nights awaited us — the impressive Marella Discovery. With a voyage ahead taking us down through the Mediterranean and into the Aegean Sea, we were ready to leave everyday life behind and enjoy a little adventure.

After boarding, we kicked things off in style with a welcome-aboard drink in the ship’s impressive atrium. As relatively few passengers had arrived at that point, we took the opportunity to explore our new floating home before the crowds descended.

There was plenty to discover, and as we wandered around the top deck, we came across the mini-golf course. Well, it would have been rude not to have a go! So, with our competitive spirits awakened, we spent a little time putting our way around a few holes.

Having worked up a thirst, we headed back inside, settled down with a refreshing drink and watched the sun slowly set over Limassol. It was one of those lovely moments when the holiday feeling really begins to sink in, with the ship waiting to carry us away to new destinations.

Dinner was next, and we made our way to the Islands Buffet Restaurant, beautifully enclosed in glass and boasting superb views over the bow of the ship. With the sea stretching out ahead of us, it was a wonderful spot to enjoy our first evening on board.

But the night wasn’t over just yet! After dinner, we headed to the Show Lounge for Britannia, a lively production celebrating the history of British pop music. A talented troupe of young singers and dancers took us on a musical journey through the decades, providing an entertaining end to our first evening.
