On St David's day we popped down the 1911 club to help our old mates "Spud"  (50th) and Dave celebrate their Birthdays. Mandy baked  a cake and a large number of friends turned out and Paul cooked some smashing food.

On Saturday it was John's 65th birthday and his wife Lynn organised a surprise party thatwas held for him at the Pissouriana hotel. A large crowd were entertained by a Jazz band and a superb buffet was served.

Thailand and a Sporting weekend

This week saw Mary and Steve jet off to Thailand for a well deserved holiday, they flew from Larnaca to Bankok via Abu Dhabi...more stories on this to come...I'm sure !

Then the Sporting weekend began, first up Wales travelled to Fortress Twickenham to take on England, in an exciting encounter Wales came away victorious by 19 points to 12 and by doing so won the Triple crown.

I personally enjoyed the Eddie Butler/Brian Moore commentating "neutrality" in the box. Absolute classic - Wales go 12-6 down and Moore crows/gleefully comments as Swing Low reverberates around Twickenham ......"Let's see what this Welsh side have got now then?"..............

Umm.............. that'll be 13 unanswered points and a triple crown in the away dressing room then Brian....Priceless.

On Sunday we popped down to our local pub to watch our old team Cardiff City take on Liverpool in the Carling cup final at Wembley. The Bluebirds put in a great display and  scored an equaliser with two minutes of extra time left to play that felt like a winner, but it was not to be our day as Liverpool won the penalty shoot out.

Rob's Birthday

Yet another birthday rolls around, the day started with bacon sandwiches with Mandy, Mary and 4D. We then trooped down to Pissouri bay for some bracing fresh air and Jan and Alun joined us for coffee and  Mandy's home made cake before returning to the village for a few birthday drinks at the 1911 club.

A BIG thank you to everyone who who took the time to send  me cards, gifts and messages.

Football in Limassol

Some of the lads from Pissouri made their way to the a Limassol football stadium to watch AEL take on APOEL of Nicosia. The Cypriot fans were loud, colourful and passionate, sadly the 2 teams on the field did'ent show as much passion as they play out a fairly drab 0-0 draw.

One of the party nearly wet himself when he found a fellow Aston Villa fan in the crowd, you meet all sorts on this beautiful Island.

Return to the 60's

On a beautiful February day the weekend got off to a quiet start when Rob and 4D took a hike along the coast of Melanda.

On the way down to Melanda  we popped over to see the construction work that was being carried out on the land slip area of the village.

Things livened up in the evening when we popped over to the Hillview restaurant where a Skool disco had been organised.

There were some great outfits on show and those crazy kids of Pissouri danced the night away to some groovy tunes. (more photo's here)
and to end the evening we had our very own "Billie Jean"

Water, Water, everywhere and not a drop to drink.

After continuous rainfall over the last 5 or 6 weeks, we are now experiencing a water cut in the village that so far has lasted 2 to 3 days.  Our water pumping station at Fasoula, has been swamped and damage to the pipework is the apparent cause.

We were told that road tankers would arrive yesterday to top up the main village tanks, but this does'ent see to have happened... ah well.... this is Cyprus.

Eye Laser treatment and Wembeleeeeee

Mandy was concerned about her eyesight so we made our way to Larnaca to the clinic of Dr Vorkas. After a series of tests Mandy was informed that laser treatment was the best option for her.

Thirty minutes later we were in the laser treatment room and Mandy had the laser treatment completed on both eyes within 20 minutes.
Dr Vorkas told us that recovery with take several days but Mandy can already see a vast improvement in her sight.

A quick mention to our old football club, Cardiff City, who made  it through to the Carling cup Final at Wembley after beating Crystal Palace in a tight semi final The Bluebirds won  in a thrilling semi final that was decided on a penalty shoot out.

Two Valley Hike

During a break from the constant rain in Cyprus, we decided to hike around the area North of Kouklia. Our starting point was the village of Nikokleia, we made our way  North along the Xeros valley, which climbs 400m up to the villages of Choletria and Stavrokonnou.

We then travelled across county  and made our way down to the village of  Mamonia and the  Diarioz valley, during this part of the hike, someone, I won't mention any names, mislaid the map.

We crossed the Xeros river which had swelled after the recent rains and made our way to the deserted village of Souskiou. The final part of the hike was South following the river to Nikokleia, a hike of about 23 Kilometers

Stormy weather

Over the last few days the Island of Cyprus has been lashed by storms and heavy winds. A few weeks ago a cargo ship (EDRO 111 ) ran aground  in rough weather North of Paphos in the sea caves area, at the time of writing the ship is still aground.

The poor weather is forecast to last for several more days.

New Year's Lunch

We were kindly invited to a New Years Lunch at Paul & Judy's house. The guests were served a wonderful Goulash followed by cheese and Port. Sadly one well known guest was missing due to an over indulgence during the festive week and the utter shock of Villa winning at Stamford bridge.

After an afternoon storm, Georgia managed to catch a rainbow !
