Our Wedding Anniversary

We decided to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary by spending a long weekend in the Northern town of Kyrenia. Our base in Kyrenia was The Ship hotel. The hotel sits between the old harbour and the dramatic Pentadaktylos mountain range.
The bustling, picturesque harbour of Kyrenia is a a magnet for visitors but still remains some charm and has a variety of restaurants dotted along the front. At one end of the harbour is the imposing Kyrenia castle with its museum that hold one of the earliest shipwrecks ever found.
The ruins of Bellapais Abbey are situated just East of Kyrenia. The Abbey was built between 1158 and 1205. Bellapais Abbey in Northern Cyprus (or 'Abbaye de la Paix', as it was originally known) is one of the most excellent examples of Lusignan period Gothic architecture.

We visited the stunning remains of St Hillarion Castle which was built around the 10th Century. The climb to the higher parts of the castle is a quite steep but the views into the valley and town below are well worth it.
Jan’s Birthday
We gathered at the 1911 club for a surprise birthday party for Jan. Theo cooked up a superb Chicken and Pork souvla meal and Sheena made 2 lovely cakes.
Every one was in high spirits and a good time was had by all, especially the birthday girl. No Music so thankfully No dancing..she'll kill me when she reads this.

Champagne and figs

This weekend we enjoyed a meal with friends Mike and Steph and opened a nice bottle of champagne given to us by a mutual friend who we helped construst a BBQ "bunker" in his garden.
On Sunday, Rob joined Theo down at his farm on the outskirts of Pissouri. Theo grows grapes, figs, pistachio and almond nuts, on a warm day, we picked some grapes and figs.

Paphos beer festival.
This week Rob passed his PADI open water SCUBA course, a big thanks to Instructor, Steve, who guided him through and showed great patience, especially in such hot conditions.
We organised a coach from Pissouri to Paphos harbour for the 4th Beer festival. There was a good turnout and friendly atmosphere for this annual event.
We were a little disappointed with the lack of variety of food available and the type of music blasting out from the huge speakers. On the plus side, we enjoyed the live band and the impressive firework display.

Dinner under the stars

After the boat trip we were invited by Theo and his family to share late poolside dinner under the clear skies of a beautifully cool Summer's evening.
Xenia and Mandy both cooked their variety of chicken casserole and both families enjoyed a relaxing evening helped by a number of bottles of chilled wine.

Full day Boat trip from Paphos

On the Twins final day in Cyprus we decided to take them on a full day boat trip. We drove into Paphos and had a hearty full English breakfast at the Rose pub (excellent value at £1.50) and then took the short walk to boar the "Sea Star" cruise boat.
We sailed from Paphos passing the stricken hulk of a Greek cargo ship that in 1997 grounded on rocks just North of the harbour, we sailed into Coral Bay where we took the chance to have a cooling swim.
We then sailed onto Lara Bay on the Akamas peninsular which is a protected beach for nesting turtles.
